Why We Celebrate:
The Meaning of the 50th Jubilee

Recognizing a Half-Century of Service

Celebrating 50 years of service honors a lifetime of faithful commitment. This milestone reflects perseverance, devotion, and enduring response to God’s call, recognizing decades of ministry rooted in prayer, compassion, and steadfast dedication to mission.

Honoring their Impact

Over the years, the Seraphic Sisters have served countless lives through compassionate elder care and spiritual ministry. Their work has provided dignity, comfort, and renewal, creating sacred spaces where individuals and families experience God’s presence and love.

Giving Thanks to God

A Jubilee is first and foremost an act of thanksgiving to God. It invites reflection on grace received, blessings shared, and lives transformed, uniting the Sisters and community in prayerful gratitude and trust for the journey ahead.

Witnessing to Faithfulness and Hope

Fifty years of ministry stand as a powerful witness of faith lived through change and challenge. The Sisters’ enduring presence reflects humility, perseverance, and hope, inspiring others—especially those discerning vocation—to lives rooted in service and prayer.

Strengthening Community and Support

The Jubilee brings together friends, parishioners, volunteers, benefactors, and families in shared celebration. It renews relationships, deepens gratitude, and strengthens the bonds that sustain ministry, reminding all that this mission is carried forward together.

Celebrating the Fruits of Their Mission

Through decades of service, the Sisters’ ministries have nurtured faith, comforted the vulnerable, and fostered spiritual growth. The Jubilee celebrates these lasting fruits—visible in transformed lives, strengthened families, and a legacy of compassionate love.

Who the Seraphic Sisters Are

The Seraphic Sisters, formally known as the Daughters of Our Lady of Sorrows, were founded in 1881 in Poland. Their origin is connected with the Third Order of St. Francis of Assisi and a mission of serving the poor and evangelizing in difficult circumstances.

Their name — Seraphic — refers to the intense love and humility associated with St. Francis of Assisi, often called the Seraphic Saint.

Their Presence & Ministry in Texas

The Seraphic Sisters have been active in Texas since 1970, serving through
care for the elderly and spiritual ministry.

Their work includes:

  • Operating nursing homes such as St. Francis Nursing Home in San Antonio and John Paul II Nursing Home in Kenedy, Texas, providing compassionate, family-like care

  • Overseeing the Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine & Retreat Center
in San Antonio, a place of pilgrimage, prayer, retreats, and spiritual renewal

On September 13, 1976, the Seraphic Sisters became owners of two nursing homes, which they renamed John Paul II Nursing Home and St. Francis Nursing Home — marking a foundational chapter in their Texas ministry.
